With nearly 30 years of experience spanning technology, education, and leadership, I have built a career focused on enabling organisations to leverage technology for transformation, efficiency, and sustainable growth. My professional journey bridges academia, enterprise IT, networking, consultancy, and entrepreneurship across Bangladesh and the United Kingdom.

I hold a B.Sc. (1995) and M.Sc. (1996) in Computer Science & Engineering from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), Bangladesh. I began my career in 1997 as a Lecturer in Information Technology at Sylhet Modhan Mohan College, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to education and knowledge sharing.

In the same year, I was selected as a delegate from the Bangladesh Parliament to attend the Commonwealth Youth Conference (1997) in the United Kingdom, where I participated alongside representatives from over 80 Commonwealth countries. This experience provided early international exposure to youth leadership, collaboration, and global policy dialogue.

As part of my professional development in the UK, I further enhanced my technical expertise by attending Birmingham City University (2001–2002), where I completed CCNA training, strengthening my capabilities in Cisco networking, routing, and enterprise infrastructure design.

My career progressed into enterprise IT, where I worked as a Configuration Engineer at SCC (Specialist Computer Centres), one of Europe’s leading IT solutions providers. In this role, I specialised in enterprise hardware configuration, network infrastructure deployment, and system integration, delivering high-quality technology solutions for business clients.

Alongside my technical career, I contributed to education by teaching Information Technology to Key Stage 2–4 students at the University of the First Age (UK), helping young learners build confidence in digital skills and technology fundamentals.

Today, I am the Founder and CEO of ORBIT ITECH LIMITED, where I lead digital transformation initiatives, IT strategy consulting, and infrastructure solutions for organisations seeking to modernise and optimise their technology environments.

Leadership has been a consistent theme throughout my journey. At Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), I founded the Tourist Club, the first of its kind in Bangladesh, co-founded the Computer Science & Engineering Society, and was elected General Secretary of the Central Students’ Union (SUCSU), representing students at a university-wide level.

I believe effective leadership combines technical expertise with vision, integrity, and a commitment to developing others. My mission is to help organisations embrace innovation while mentoring future generations of technology professionals and leaders.

Iftikhar (Tim) Khan, founder of Medway Consultancy Services (UK) Ltd has for over 29 years of engineering consultancy services in Bangladesh. Initially representing Rendels Limited, one of the world’s largest and oldest international Consultancies, including participation in such major infrastructural projects as the Jamuna Bridge, and 60 bridges funded by the UK Department for International Development, his work within the community of South Asian countries, especially Bangladesh was recognized by UK Government with his investiture in 2009 as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire. He is also Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation both of the UK and the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh.

Mostafizur Rahman Syed

Director and Proposed Technical Lead for Greater Sylhet Transport Master Plan.

Syed is a highly accomplished transport master planning and modelling expert with over 20 years of international consultancy experience delivering complex transportation strategies, business cases, and infrastructure schemes. He has a strong reputation for providing technical leadership and project management across high-profile assignments for national, regional, and local transport authorities.

He has successfully delivered consultancy services to leading UK organisations including National Highways, Transport for London (TfL), Transport for the North (TfN), and Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), as well as numerous Local Authorities. His work has supported strategic transport planning, policy development, and major infrastructure investment decisions, ensuring alignment with national and regional transport objectives. Internationally, Syed has led and delivered transport master planning projects across Ireland, Qatar, Iraq, and the UAE, demonstrating deep expertise in addressing complex, multi-jurisdictional transport challenges and adapting solutions to diverse regulatory and socio-economic contexts.

A key highlight of his recent experience is his role as Technical Project Manager for the Dubai Mobility Project, commissioned by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). In this role, he led a major initiative to enhance inter-emirate mobility across Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman, delivering enhancements to the regional four-stage transport model, integrating updated land use data, and developing advanced components including housing choice models and Economic Benefit Analysis (EBA) within the VISUM platform. This work underpinned the development of a comprehensive multimodal transport strategy for the region.

Syed has also contributed to a diverse portfolio of specialist consultancy services, including city centre improvement strategies, toll road analysis, and car park management studies, helping clients optimise network performance, improve urban mobility, and enhance user experience.

He was the Lead Modeller for the £54 million Southern Link Road Phase 4, delivering robust modelling and appraisal evidence that supported the successful business case and scheme approval.

Technically, Syed possesses extensive expertise in strategic, multimodal, and microsimulation modelling, with advanced proficiency in industry standard tools. His work has consistently supported business case
development, economic appraisal, and scheme evaluation.
